Events

Since 2021, LA Radio Club has organized a bi-monthly workshop and speaker series. Through these events, early-career audio storytellers are able to hear from some of the leading voices in our industry. Each event centers around a different theme, from investigative reporting to podcast development to sound design and more. By breaking down a project they've created, each of our speakers aims to demystify the aspects of audio production that are often gatekept. The goal is to have dynamic, educational workshops that leave our attendees, many of whom are early-career producers, with new skills, tools and connections.

All of our events have been free, thanks in large part to the generosity of our speakers and volunteers donating their time and venue partners like dublab LA and Art In The Park providing in-kind donations of their facilities to host events.

4/16 - Video Storytelling Panel with Signal Awards

Signal’s Jemma Brown moderated a conversation with YouTube’s Product Lead for Podcasting, Steve McLendon, and Headspace’s Director of Podcasts, Daniel Carissimi, exploring how visual formats are reshaping the future of audio storytelling. Together, they unpacked the growing role of video companions in reaching audiences, expanding narrative possibilities, and adapting to evolving listener habits.

PAST EVENTS

March 2025 | An Evening at LAist with Reasonable Volume

LARC partnered with LAist Studios for an evening of reporting and skill-building in Pasadena. Journalist and producer Rachel Swaby walked attendees through the behind-the-scenes process of the narrative miniseries, The Other Moonshot, sharing practical tips on reporting, structuring, and producing narrative audio. The event also included breakout discussions and mentor pairing aimed at supporting early-career journalists.

Feb 2024 | LA Radio Club x Western Sound

LARC hosted Story + Craft in partnership with the Peabody-winning studio Western Sound and the Stony Brook Podcast Incubator. Held at North Fig Studios, the evening brought together audio journalists, sound designers, and narrative producers for a night of community and conversation.

Jan 2025 | LARC x TKTK Happy Hour
LARC co-hosted a journalism happy hour with TKTK Happy Hour founder & NBC News reporter Tyler Kingkade, bringing together journalists and audio storytellers for an evening of connection.

Dec 2024 | LARC Reporting Incubator Workshop

LARC hosted a free workshop at AITP focused on our 2025 Reporting Incubator. Attendees joined breakout discussions, shared works-in-progress, and connected with fellow journalists over food and conversation.

Oct 2024 | LA Radio Club x LA Public Press Event

May 2024 | LA Radio Club: Writing For The Ear Workshop @ AITP

For our May 2024 Radio Club, we held a workshop focused on "Writing For The Ear." We looked at different ways to start a story and what comprises a strong beginning. Attendees paired up to write their own episode intros, culminating in group critiques.

March 2024 | LA Radio Club x KCRW Party @ Navel LA

KCRW and LA Radio Club partnered up to throw a party for local audio storytellers & journalists on March 15th. We offered a number of mentoring “tune-up” sessions and speakers from LA publications, along with food and drinks from local vendors.
